Metuchen Public Defender & Edison Law Office Volunteer Internships Spring & Fall Semester for High School students
The Public Defenders provide poor individuals charged with criminal or serious motor vehicle charges with free or limited cost legal defense. The Public Defender invites senior & junior high school students interested in law, criminal justice or a career in law enforcement to apply to serve as volunteer interns. Volunteer Law Clerk interns can also attend Wednesday evening 5:30 court sessions if they have a ride or a car. Please post this along to interested students. Minimum 6 hours per week.

VOLUNTEER LEGAL INTERNS NEEDED PUBLIC DEFENDER
Position available for High School Student Please post!
Court times: WEDNESDAY 2:45pm PM [approx]- 7:30 PM, plus hearing preparation work on other days you are available.
Volunteer Internship Description:
-Make demands for Discovery on Prosecutor and review police reports
-Attend hearings and learn from experienced trial attorneys [You need a car or a ride from Edison to the Metuchen court]
- Add criminal law articles to Google, Linkedin Facebook and other media
-Add legal articles to the http://CriminalArticle.Blogspot.com/and other blogs
-Learn to add legal videos to YouTube, Tube Mogul and other video sites
-Add probate articles and senior citizen information to the NJ Elder Law blog
-Participate in Public Relations activities and help organize seminars
- Update Lists of Prosecutors, Judges and Attorneys
- - Revise criminal and traffic law Articles and submit to Law Journals and criminal law websites.
- Add new criminal cases, criminal statutes and criminal articles to our Public Defender blog: http://criminal-jury.blogspot.comand other legal blogs and websites for use of clients and the general public.
- Add Motor vehicle statutes, criminal court rules to websites to assist persons charged with criminal, traffic, DWI and municipal court complaints
- Prepare end of case letters to clients
- Act as formal witness to Wills, Power of Attorney and other legal documents if you are over 18
Volunteer to help indigent people charged with criminal and motor vehicle offenses of magnitude. Help people less fortunate than you who are down on their luck.
Program lasts 12 weeks. Minimum time commitment September- May is six hours per week for senior and junior high school students. The program is not available in the summer.
This office is committed to excellence and service to clients and the community. Applicants must have attention to detail. We attempt to give assignments, which will be meaningful and memorable but, nevertheless, expect that interns will pitch in on whatever needs to be done.
